Housing stock varies enough across the metro to matter. Older neighborhoods in Hinds County often still run ductwork sized for a smaller, less efficient system than what gets installed today, so swapping the unit alone without addressing that trunk line can leave rooms unevenly cooled. Newer subdivisions across Madison and Rankin counties usually arrived with tighter, better-insulated construction, which changes how a system cycles more than how hard it runs. Either way, a Mississippi summer keeps a system working nearly continuously for months, and that sustained duty cycle is what wears components down, not any single hot afternoon.
